Drusilla Marie Sherman was born in 1934 to Hugh and Leila Sherman in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was quickly known as Dru. The family, which included sister Betty Lou, moved to Glendale, California, by 1940. Dru had an independent spirit from a young age as both of her parents worked. When she went to the movie theater, she walked to save enough money so she could buy an extra candy bar. She enjoyed life and was always very creative. Her best friend growing up was Mary Mossoni Wollam, a friend she would have for life.

Dru and Mary looked very much alike when they were young women. Most people thought they were sisters. They were both thin, tall, and beautiful. The two girls would spend much of their time playing together or going to Maxine's, a yardage store on Brand Boulevard in Glendale. On the last day of the sales, they'd play in the yards and yards of material and laugh together, wondering what they could create from the prettiest material and the ugliest material on sale. Dru also loved to go to luncheon parties and spend weekends with Grandpa Mossoni and Mary. Dru had a very special relationship with the entire family.

Dru attended Cerrito grade school and Roosevelt Junior High. When she was 14 years old, her parents bought a bakery in Newhall on San Fernando Road. They named the bakery "Dru Marie's." She worked early in the mornings before school at the bakery. She was proud to be a part of it as it carried her name. At the bakery, she decorated cakes and she also had the opportunity to meet many famous western stars. She was invited to Hoagie Carmichael's house and William S. Heart's for parties. She went on to graduate from the William S. Heart High School where Dru was a cheerleader. Dru also worked at the ticket counter and snack stand at the movie house in Newhall, taking her nephew Donnie along.

Dru met the love of her life when she was 18 while out cruising with her girlfriends. His name was Donald Dee Tubbs. They eloped to Yuma, Arizona. Soon, she moved to El Paso, Texas, where Don was stationed with the Army where he worked as an MP and the General's Driver during the Korean conflict. The couple moved back to Glendale after Don's time in the Army. They were so pleased to welcome their only child to the world, Donna Dee Tubbs. She was named after her father. Dru was a homemaker and a wonderful mother. She and Don built a house on top of Mt. Washington just a few houses down the street from her sister Betty Lou and her family. In her 30's, Dru worked as a professional model. She was a beauty her entire life.

On Dru and Don's 25th wedding anniversary in 1977, they were happy with the birth of their one and only grandson, Craig. Instead of calling her grandma, he called her Druie. She would take him everywhere. Family was everything to Dru. The hardest part of her life was losing Don, but the best part of her life was always her family. Craig lived with Dru for the last five years while Donna and her husband Dennis have spent many hours with Dru. There were also many holidays enjoyed together and special times to remember such as the family trip to Hawaii and cruises along the way.

Dru was extremely creative throughout her life with her art, pottery, oil paintings and especially knitting and crocheting. Some of the stores near her home would sell socks she knitted by hand. She also enjoyed gardening and nurturing her flowers and vegetables. She liked watching her favorite television shows such as Lost, Ugly Betty and the Home Shopping Network. Every week she had her hair and nails done. She only liked Lynda to do her manicure and pedicure. She also enjoyed knitting while her cat, Psycho Gershwin, sat by her side. Dru's favorite treats were sweets such as frozen Snickers and ice cream. Dru enjoyed a nice life filled with fun and laughter. One of her greatest joys was making baby blankets to give away as presents. She was always giving. Dru will be remembered as funny, bold, loving and a woman with a big heart for others. Her one wish was for her family's happiness. Dru's ashes will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn in Glendale, near her home.
